OK I see on my windows laptop which does recognize the disc there is a .PDF file accessible from within each song within the interface.
OK thank you but this is a fat free, bare bones bit of TAB you throw us.
And I have to install power TAB. So I wait and wait has the program crashed?
OK it installed but I had to show windows where it was and the TAB guitar sound is like a wazoo.
Admittadly its thru my laptop but it reminds me of Guitar Magic if you recall that guitar method? It'll crash too if you let it sit there too long.
Its like someone went and got a degree in this computer programing thing and because of cognitive dissonance wont admit the TrueFire player is lame.
I'd much rather own a regular normal digital video disc which gives me more flexibility than software so that I can watch it over at aunt Ethel's house if I want to! Or a player without these problems that need fixing. Power Tab lets you press a start arrow so you see the tab and hear the notes ensemble. PC owners are all set.
So what's this Johnny Winter guitar lesson's technical aspect like? Andy is playing a Gibson Les Paul. The sound is good in the lessons through the TrueFire player if you have good computer speakers.
Visually you are stuck in the players' frame as noted above. Each of the segments is of variable length but non are much longer than 5 minutes. You get 4 digital lesson films for each song fragment. 20 in total. In the first segment Andy plays a few bars for us. In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th segments he explains the first or shows us more of the lick in segment 3.
Broadly speaking there are 5 types of song showcased here that Johnny excelled at, shuffles, slow blues, excellent slide guitar in open D and firstly an Intro Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo solo. Now a lot of us have been taught that Rick Derringer song using bar chords. But Andy doesn't teach us that. Huh? He teaches us a different guitar part that really needs the chords in my opinion especially if you don't know the song. Instead he pay some into-lead I never heard before. Johnny played this? So maybe this is advanced for me. Of course it is.
On the other hand Andy's is the only the 2nd rendition I know of anywhere of Johnny's incredible slide playing in his cover of Bob Dylan's Highway 61. Its in open D. The menu is in the TrueFire Players interface like it or not. I repeat, for each of the 5 songs there are 4 segments to watch. I left my stop watch in my other suit and they don't boast about the individual run times. There must be a reason for that. There is accompanying button text you click to initiate other player actions: Video one and two, Jam, text, .PDF, TAB. There is a jam track.
The lesson selections consist of:
Hoochie I and II
Careful I (3:50) (5:15) and II (1 min) and ()
Shuffle I and II
Johnny I (.50 sec..) and (3 min) and II (4:12)
and last but not least
Highway 61" I (58 seconds) and (4 min) and II (2 min) and (4 min).
Most of it is great but In my opinion its fast for an beginner or even an intermediate. And I am sorry but some of it is guitar solo by numbers which is going to require being in the mood. Must be watched several times. Technique required. Like the very first one he does. I can already play the songs chords but I don't know this solo he plays to it. I don't remember hearing it. I am unfamiliar with it and I am a 40 year Johnny Winter fan. I respect Andy and no doubt this is from a Johnny period when I was busy growing chia pets. Johnny had a long career with over 40 disc releases.
Andy is obviously a Johnny Winter fan himself and that is the best part of the lesson really. Anyway the song "Be Careful with a Fool" is one of my favorites. Andy does a fine job of showing us how its opening is played. While in Cm pentatonic its attitude reliant as well as finger strength challenging not to mention technically difficult.
Some day that fool might get smart and watch all 4 guitar presentations! The song does have some inspired guitar work I tell ya! In fact its stellar. In other songs Andy show us some fine double stop moves I have wanted to learn for years and there is a more here for an initiate/adept player. Andy has a really good Blues Rock Guitar Intro DVD I recommend should you need it as well as a slew of other worthy guitar lessons. The price has come down on this 'Blues Rock Kings series' making them, in my opinion, a better value for the money.
Don't miss my other Johnny Winter Guitar lesson review its slide guitar only. So you know.
